What BYOK is
BYOK — Bring Your Own Keys — is a YappJam subscription where the AI runs on your provider keys, not ours.
You connect your Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google keys in Settings → API keys. Every AI request in your rooms uses those keys. The providers bill you directly for the tokens — no credits, no markup, no middle ledger.
You still pay YappJam a flat platform subscription for everything around the AI: real-time collaboration, voice & video, the live product preview, the GitHub push & PR flow, and Figma sync on Pro and Team. The tokens stay on your provider account.
Who BYOK is built for
Teams with existing provider contracts
If you've already negotiated rates with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google — or you have a pool of credits on the account — you shouldn't pay a markup to use them inside a collaboration tool. Plug the keys in and you're billed at the price you already agreed.
Teams that want one source of truth for AI spend
Finance tracks one invoice per provider. Engineering watches usage in the provider dashboard they already monitor. There's no reconciliation between our credit ledger and your real provider spend — the provider dashboard is the ledger.
Heavy users on a specific model
If your team lives in Claude Sonnet, Opus, GPT, or Gemini, you decide how much volume to provision. The managed credit allowance is sized for a balanced team. BYOK is sized for whatever your team actually does — top up the provider account once and your room runs until that runs dry.
What BYOK costs
Three plans, same shape as managed — without bundled credits, at a lower platform price. Yearly is cheaper than monthly, and we're still in beta, so the current pricing page is the source of truth.
Every plan includes real-time collaboration, voice & video, unlimited rooms, unlimited collaborators, and up to 10 guests per room. Pro and Team add Figma sync.
How it works
- Pick a BYOK plan on the pricing page and check out.
- Add at least one key in Settings → API keys. We verify it with the provider before storing — an invalid key never gets saved.
- Open a room and start jamming. The AI in the session uses your key.
If a key is rejected mid-session (quota exhausted, key rotated on the provider side, account suspended) we tell you which provider and which key. Top up or rotate from your provider dashboard, re-verify in settings, and you're back in.
Security and key handling
Keys are stored encrypted. You can replace or delete any key at any time from settings. If you ever switch off a BYOK plan, every stored key is deleted immediately and an audit entry is written — we never auto-restore keys if you come back later.
